I have been working for them for 4 years. The Japanese are very frugal people. The ships are of economy class, designed just to go from port to port. Don't expect much in terms of comfort; you have your own cabin, toilet, and shower, but that's about it. Most of the ships are Japanese-built. Everything is very modest, with concrete floors in the corridors and poor gyms. They pay below average and there is an overwhelming amount of paperwork. There is a constant struggle with the company regarding fuel consumption. The Japanese want no more than 2 tons per day in port, but what can you do when you have to heat 6 fuel tanks and the superstructure in February in Vancouver? They start questioning and demanding explanations for the fuel usage. In short, it's a headache.
