These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of crewrate.io (“crewrate”, “the service”, “we”, “us”) — an independent index of maritime employers with crew-submitted reviews, wage reports and community discussion. By using the service, and in particular by creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
You must be at least 16 years old to use the service. You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to it secure, and you must notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. One person — one account; accounts created to manipulate ratings, impersonate others or evade a ban may be removed without notice.
Browsing the index does not require an account. Submitting reviews, wage reports and posts does — this is how we keep the data trustworthy.
You retain ownership of everything you submit — reviews, wage reports, posts, comments and attached media (“content”). By submitting, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce and distribute that content as part of operating and promoting the service, including in anonymized aggregate statistics (for example, average wages by rank). This license includes the right to sublicense to the technical providers we rely on to run the service (such as hosting and content delivery), solely for that purpose. The license ends when your content is deleted, except for anonymized aggregates that no longer identify you, copies retained as required by law, and residual copies in routine backups until they are purged on schedule.
You are responsible for the content you submit. You confirm that it reflects your genuine, first-hand experience and does not violate any law, contract or the rights of others.
The following is not allowed anywhere on the service:
Honest negative opinions and true factual accounts of your own experience are welcome — that is the point of the service. State facts you can stand behind and mark opinions as opinions.
We may review, edit for compliance (for example, redacting a third party’s name), decline to publish, or remove any content, and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. We aim to be transparent: where practical, we tell you what was removed and why. Companies may dispute reviews; disputed reviews may be temporarily hidden while we verify them, and we may ask you for supporting evidence (for example, proof of employment), which is handled per our Privacy Policy. If your content is removed or your account is suspended, you may contest the decision by writing to privacy@crewrate.io — we will review it and reply.
Reviews and ratings are the opinions of their authors, not ours. Wage figures are user-submitted or drawn from publicly posted vacancies and are provided for orientation only: actual pay depends on the contract you sign. We are not a crewing agency, do not arrange employment, and nothing on the service is legal, financial or career advice. We do not endorse any company listed in the index; a listing is not a recommendation.
The service’s software, design, branding and the compilation of the index (as a database) belong to us or our licensors. You may quote individual reviews and statistics with attribution and a link to crewrate.io. You may not copy substantial parts of the database, republish the index, or use automated tools to extract it without our written permission.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any content — including reviews and wage data — is accurate, complete or current. You use the information on the service at your own judgment and risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, opportunities or data, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the service, or from any content submitted by users or third parties. To the same extent, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to EUR 100 or, if greater, the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for intent, gross negligence, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
If a third party brings a claim against us because content you submitted violated these Terms or the law, you agree to compensate us for the reasonable costs and damages directly resulting from that claim.
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, and may discontinue the service or any feature with reasonable notice where practicable. Sections 3 (license for anonymized aggregates), 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14 survive termination.
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced on the site before they take effect, and the effective date above will be updated. Continued use after a change means the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the service and delete your account.
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full force, and the invalid provision is deemed replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to a successor operator of the service; we will announce such a transfer on the site. You may not transfer your account or your rights under these Terms to anyone else. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
These Terms are governed by the law of the operator’s country of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-law rules; mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected. Questions about these Terms: privacy@crewrate.io.
