Swedish group headquartered in Gothenburg, operating in shipping, ferry lines and offshore drilling.
I have been working here for about a year and a half, only on ferries. In my experience, the company offers very good pay, and I have never had any problems with supplies. Officers work four weeks on and four weeks off, while ratings usually work six weeks on and three weeks off or six weeks on and six weeks off. Internet access is unlimited through Starlink. The crews are mainly from Poland, Romania and the Baltic states, with very few Ukrainian seafarers.
I worked on VLCCs and twice replaced previous crews; on both occasions, the cabins and working conditions were in very poor shape. I could not convince the office that there was a problem. In my view, the company's advantages still outweighed its disadvantages, although the fleet is getting older. Junior officers worked four months on and two months off.
I have worked here for six years. The company used to be acceptable but has deteriorated. Tanker pay is decent, while gas tanker pay is low. The food is good, but stores and supplies are very poor and there is often no budget. Management was moved to Mumbai, although key decisions are still made in Glasgow, and I have sometimes been left at home for three or more months because there was no work. Senior officers usually work three months on/three months off, while junior officers work four months on/two months off.
I worked on LNG vessels. The pay was average or below average, and the schedule was six weeks on and six weeks off in port. Internet access was above average, the food was basic but acceptable, and the vessels varied depending on the assignment. Overall, the company was workable and management did not create unnecessary problems. There was also less paperwork than with many other companies.
I have left the company. I had a direct interview with the company and worked on an offshore vessel towing rigs in Nigeria. The contract was 11 weeks on and 11 weeks off under a one-year arrangement. In my experience, supplies and provisions were poor.
The scale is not one scale. Where you land on it follows your passport, and ours lands low; colleagues who tried to argue their pay up individually got nothing. The FSRU assignments pay a bonus over the standard LNG rate, which is worth requesting. Go in with open eyes about the structure.
I was offered an LPG position on a permanent contract both directly and through a Ukrainian intermediary. The package through the intermediary came out about 5,000 USD a year lower than the direct offer from the company for the same job.
