In my experience, Teekay Tankers offered some of the best salaries and working conditions. The company provided bonuses, covered expenses, offered medical insurance and business-lounge access, and supplied good-quality workwear and footwear. The vessels were often old, and I experienced favoritism in the office and on board, with many Indian employees in management and among the crew. The company also had a complex assignment structure for electrical work, with travelling ETOs and additional responsibilities for the engine officers.
I worked for Teekay and my experience was mixed. The salaries are not very high, and they haven't increased in the last ten years. The bonus system is complicated and hard to achieve, as you need to have a 'clean sheet' with no inspections to get the full bonus. There are fewer Croatians on board, and most of the office staff are Indian. The internet on board is limited, but there is a free daily voucher.
