I started last month, and so far, it's okay. They agreed to cover all travel expenses. The 4/2 schedule is only temporary; their goal is to prepare us for 1st officers as quickly as possible. They have a great training program, and it feels more like being in college than on a ship. According to their estimate, it takes about 2 years to become a 1st officer if you master the maneuvering. Then the contract is 4/4 with a salary of around 3200 EUR. In my opinion, it's a much better life than being away for 4 months at sea and then home for 2-3 weeks.
I work on the deck of ice class vessels. The structure includes a master, staff captain, and three chief officers. The food is good if you eat where the guests eat, but it's terrible for the crew. The cabins are really nice and spacious. There are strict alcohol rules, and discipline is lacking. The office staff in Split is very nice and respectful, and they do what they say. However, when you order something, you wait a year for it, and there are always issues with parts. Overall, if you can handle the downsides, it's a good company.
I was advised to have experience and all the necessary certificates to get hired. You need luck to find openings, as they prioritize local candidates. A friend of mine joined as a third officer a year ago, but he had experience. I have heard various things about the company, but from my own experience, the representative was honest with me.
