This was my first contract as an OS in 2020–2021. The contract was for 6 months, with a basic salary of $860 and approximately $1.3k including overtime. We started work at 6 a.m. and usually finished at 7–8 p.m.; Saturdays were half-days and Sundays were off, although the vessel was an old Chinese-built ship that we were expected to modernize. The food was good, and overall the experience was probably better than at an average Greek company.
I worked there for three contracts as a captain, so I have a certain understanding of the company. I wouldn't say that everything is as bad as sometimes described. The junior officers are generally fine, and the crews are typical. They provide the necessary supplies for the ship's operation. Of course, there are moments when certain problems are not given much attention, but if an issue could lead to vessel detention or off-hire, they respond and resolve it quickly. Overall, working there is possible. A good salary often compensates for many shortcomings. However, personally, the only reason I would consider this company again is its affiliation with Wilhelmsen. Otherwise, I have no desire to return.
