I worked for GEFO in 2021 as a third officer on a chemical tanker and completed an eight-week contract. The salary was €4,250 plus insurance. The vessel operated on the Antwerp–Brunsbüttel route, and for most of the contract the watch schedule was 6/6. The workload was heavy, including safety-related tasks and SCBA use for every connection and disconnection, which required constantly refilling the cylinders. It was valuable experience, but these working conditions did not suit me, so I did not return for another contract.
