The conditions are quite okay. As a third officer, you don't have much work, just standard drills and lists. Contracts are usually 3-4 months, and you typically spend 2-3 months at home. The permanent contract pays around $3200. The food is good, but it depends on the cook. Some crew members prefer to bring their own food, but you can always say you don't eat curry. Overall, it's good, not great, but it can be a good stepping stone for other companies later. The biggest issue is the slow promotion process; they keep you in the same rank for years and bring in new people from outside, which can be frustrating.
