I worked on ferry routes handled by Matrix Ship Management for Irish Ferries. The salaries were decent and the food was above average, with several side dishes, meat, fish and free soft drinks. The treatment of people was very poor, and the work involved 12-hour watches. Travel to the vessel could be difficult, with complicated train connections between London and Dover, and joining in the UK could create immigration problems without the required documents.
